Remember there are things we cannot change in life but we can change how we deal with the situation and understanding how the body reacts will significantly reduce stress because it is all controlled from our brain. It is not a simple mechanism as the whole body fights stress as a unit and often we are not aware of that fact. So today quick thought to meditate on is we have a choice to be in stressed state or calm state is first positive step. Don’t beat yourself up if you are stressed continually as it is a skill set to learn.
Reframing in Psychology is a powerful tool to help with suffering either mentally or physically or both. The idea is change a perspective or view of the situation. This will change the thoughts. the the feelings or moods and change the behaviour will change. In view of isolation your view of the situation can impact your mental health either way positively or negatively. In line with reframing ideas in life most top professionals from athletes to business do a daily programming of their thoughts by journalling at least 3 positive things in their life and reflecting on the ideas attaching a positive emotion to it. The brain naturally gravitates toward negativity so train your brain to reframe to lose the pain.

Imagine that concept, your neighbour has had stress of some description. You may not be able to solve the problem but show empathy. If you never been empathetic to yourself by self care , you wouldn’t know how to show empathy to someone else. Fear-Anxiety-Stress: The Cascade of human emotions is very real especially if you are feeling the surge in your body from low intensity to overload. Our thoughts are the precursor to our feelings which often lead to actions either subconscious or conscious. The big question we all would love to know is :when we are stressed or anxious how can I stop the feelings which is evident in my body. The brain constructs a network of past memories like a computer hard drive from conception to death. Everything in our life has been programmed by our senses explicitly and implicitly. Imagine your brain is in total darkness , so it relies from data outside the body to function. There are hundreds of body systems working together to keep you alive. The brain controls these systems to optimise your body resources. Most of these systems we are not aware of , I was taught on a course that the average human is only aware of 10% of what body doing at that moment WOW. How we process data or information will be constructed in the brain which will effect our future feelings and behaviour. One Exercise to reduce anxiety and stress and fear. Be present at the moment of anxiety and not to focus on the future event of what may or will happen. Talk to a trusted friend how you feel if they are not available write down your feelings. Questions for reflection. Did a similar event happen in the past ? Is it happening now at this moment? Will it happen in the future? The key is SLOW down , your breathing , thoughts and feelings because of your emotions if you a-low them they will come and flow through the body that’s why called e-MOTION .If you have overwhelming anxiety it is important to speak to a qualified therapist who has the skills to help you. By slowing everything thing down , you over ride your nervous system that will reduce hormones, blood flow and other mechanisms in the body. The optimum state for the body is a calm place. Relax , recharge your mental state by positive creativity. Refocus on your mind on many blessings you have had then body will readjust.
Important to have stress in our lives because in essence it gives us that shot of energy if used correctly to conquer the challenges we meet. It motivates us to action to meet our personal , emotional, mental and spiritual needs. Reminds me of the action of a shot of coffee in the morning or late afternoon to awaken our senses and be motivated to get going. The eustress( eu Greek work for good)is working continually inside our bodies to function so we can exist. The word Homeostasis is a common term used in biology, chemistry, physiology etc to define the subject in a stable equilibrium being independent from other influences. From a molecular level it is important for the stability of the cell to survive with a regulating system. Life throws at us constant variables by being flexible, adaptable and open to change in meeting our needs will reduce the bad stress. There are many tools and strategies to reduce bad stress and there are ways to have eustress in our life. Exploring life a balance and reflecting on how to reach homeostasis is the first step in the right direction to reduce distress( bad stress). In summary by self regulating our environment and choices to maintain stability we will have optimal potential in life to produce growth. Remember distress on any organism will impoverish the well being of the single cell to the complex demands of a human being.
Stress strategies are the secret to a happier life and by exploring different options that work for you is key because everyone is different. This is one option with 3 simple steps that will force your brain and emotions to adjust so hopefully your mood will change or dissipate in time. The simple step of changing your environment from moving from the house to the garden will force your brain to adjust for example the light, temperature, air quality, and so forth. Slowing down by changing your pace example from housework to a welcoming coffee will effect your brain. Changing the topic from work to pleasure with change the chemistry in your brain and body. Stress strategy laugh and have fun. Often this is forgotten because we all grow up apart from me 😂 as most of my family say especially my children.Personality helps if you have that fun side but it can be cultivated from within. Imagine today is your last day on earth ,how would you like to spend it. I’m sure we would want to make it a memorable time for our friends and family to remember. On a scientific perspective the data shows that laughter is a stress relief for the body short term and long term. Even forcing a smile will make you feel better , practice having fun and change your perspective on stress you are facing and see the funny side of the situation. Imagination is a great tool to take heat out of a situation. From personal experience, if I couldn’t sleep at night I would watch a comedy sitcom and that made me relax and off I went to never land easily. I have a mantra when I say goodbye “have fun” 🙃
